Bridgetown, Barbados, November 25, 2013. Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export) in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) will host a workshop on the Use of Intellectual Property as a Tool for Business/Export Enhancement, at the Radisson Aquatica Resort, from November 27-29, 2013.

It is increasingly recognized that IP is now one of the most valuable assets in commercial transactions, and whether manufacturing, purchasing, distribution or licensing businesses should take steps to protect their IP assets and exploit them to the greatest extent possible based on their business and export strategies.

With this in view, this workshop will target the regional Chambers of Commerce and members of the private sector who are exporting and could benefit from stronger export branding and or interested in licensing and franchising, with the aim of introducing participants to intellectual property (IP) tools which may be used to enhance their business and increase exports.

Additionally, regional business who have had export success through the use of IP tools will also be showcased as case studies during the workshop, these include: 10 Saints Brewery Company Ltd. (Barbados), Tastee Ltd. and Associated Manufacturers Ltd. (Jamaica), and SMAKS Luxury Group Ltd. and Rituals Coffee House (Trinidad and Tobago).
