4th CARICOM-Dominican Republic Business Forum

The Caribbean Association of Industry and Commerce (CAIC) and the Santo Domingo Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export) will be hosting the 4th CARICOM-Dominican Republic Business Forum on December 11, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

The aim of the Forum is to focus attention on issues which are crucial to ensuring that the private sector effectively exploits the economic opportunities made available within the CARICOM-Dominican Republic (DR) Free Trade Agreement and promote strategic alliances with a view to increasing the potential of the region to diversify the export offer of goods and services and to boost its market share in the European and other international markets.The achievement of thes objective becomes more urgent given the present economic crisis and the implications of the recently signed CARIFORUM-EC Economic Partnership Agreement on the trade and investment relations between CARICOM and the Dominican Republic. 
 
The establishment of the CARICOM-DR Business Forum was provided for in the CARICOM-DR Free Trade Agreement.  This forum allows for the active participation of the private sector in fulfillment of the Agreement’s objectives.  The CARICOM-DR Business Forum has sought to strengthen the commercial and economic relations between the Parties to the Agreement.  The Forum is funded by teh European Union through the 9th Economic Development Fund (EDF) Caribbean Trade and Private Sector Support Programme.
