Caribbean in spotlight at Dominicana Moda 2009
-The Dominican Republic and the wider Caribbean are set to deepen collaborative relationships at this year’s edition of Domincana Moda (www.domicanamoda.com) in the Dominican Republic on October 19-24. The collaboration is being made possible through the assistance of Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export) in association with the Caribbean Fashion Industry Association (CAFIF).
The international component of Dominicana Moda this year has been dedicated to Caribbean designers. The designers were selected according to their level of export-readiness and ability to take advantage of retail and production opportunities which the Dominican Republic could offer and include:
- International fashion model Lois Samuels of the Vessel -who successfully showed at New York Fashion
Week this year - Caribbean awarded master designer Meiling from Trinidad & Tobago
- Upcoming Barbados casual wear designer Kraig Yearwood from 3rd Revolt
- Respected Haitian designer David Andre
- Guadeloupean designer, Denis Davead.
According to Mr. Ramirez, “Caribbean Export through the European Union-funded Caribbean Trade and Private Sector Development Programme (CTPSDP), has identified the creative industries as a priority area for development. Fashion & Design is one of the key subsectors in this respect and intra-regional collaboration and market expansion are viewed as a key opportunity and area for development.”
