Caribbean Export going to World Music Expo 2009

  -

Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export) continues its support to the music sector by coordinating a delegation of Caribbean music agencies and companies to the World Music Expo (WOMEX) from October 28- November 02, in Copenhagen, Denmark.

This project is a direct response to the identified needs of the Caribbean Music Industry. In addition to coordinating a small Caribbean Stand at the Expo, Caribbean Export will be participating in the European Commission’s (EC) dialogue between the Commission and stakeholders from civil society including the private sector, in order to reflect on the needs of the music sector and the way the Protocol 3 of the CARIFORUM-EC Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) - on Cultural Cooperation, can provide an answer to these needs, to strengthen the music industry in partner countries.

WOMEX is an international world music support and development project based in Berlin, whose main event is an exposition held annually in different locations throughout Europe. It integrates a trade fair, showcases, conferences, film market, networking sessions and awards.

From 2001 with the publication of a study commissioned by the Agency on the Caribbean Music Industry authored by Dr. keith Nurse, Caribbean Export has been actively involved with the regional music industry.  The provision of technical assistance to companies and artistes, support to national and regional seminars and creative industries conferences and study tours of MIDEM (the world's largest music industry trade fair) by Caribbean music-related Business Support Organisations (BSOs) are just some of the types of support provided by Caribbean Export over the years.
