New Strategic Plan for Moving Caribbean Export Forward

The Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export) will be drawing on specialised international inputs to help position its trade and investment promotion role in the context of current and anticipated global developments.

Following the 22nd Meeting of the Caribbean Export’s Board of Directors recently held in the Bahamas, executive director, Phillip Williams noted that they were looking to rapidly move the Agency “from a focus on objectives and outputs to one of outcomes and impacts during the period 2010-2013”.  While delivering the position paper, ‘Expanding Caribbean Business in the Global Marketplace’, Williams stressed that in addition to having further consultation with stakeholders, one of Caribbean Export’s priorities would be introducing Caribbean businesses to the international market. The paper provided a snapshot of the Agency’s priorities and direction.

The board meeting was attended by representatives of the 15 member states of CARIFORUM, along with observers from the CARICOM Secretariat and other important regional bodies. It was preceded by the 4th Steering Committee of the Caribbean Trade and Private Sector Development Programme (CTPSDP), which is being implemented by Caribbean Export and funded by the European Union under the 9th European Development Fund. The steering committee is comprised of private sector and government representative of CARIFORUM whose role is to guide the actions of the CTPSDP.
