Planning Meeting on Caribbean Design
-Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export) is hosting a planning meeting on Caribbean design on February 12-13, 2009, in Ocho Rios, Jamaica which seeks to strengthen design capacity in the Caribbean, particularly for exports.
The meeting will provide an update on the status of design in the Region, including profiles, projects, case studies; current issues: relevance of current training, research of culture/motifs etc. design process, particularly as it relates to craft.
Other items on the Agenda include:
• The Caribbean style of design
• The implications of technology on design
• Creating a regional design presence/identity
• Formation of a Design Initiative Task Force
• Training and Education
• Creating new linkages between design and product (e.g. handicraft)
This initiative is funded under the European Union's Caribbean Trade and Private Sector Development Programme (CTPSDP). One of the main objectives of the CTPSD is to increase the competitiveness of firms and sectors in CARIFORUM Member States through market expansion and export diversification.
