Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export) and the Caribbean Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (CAIPA) hosted a close-out workshop on September 22 to mark the end of a 12 month grant funding programme with PROINVEST.
The grant fund programme, which ended on 30 September sought to strengthen the capacity of the regional Investment Promotions Agencies (IPAs) to effectively execute their mandates; provide required support to the CAIPA Secretariat and; promote and develop cooperation and exchange of best-practices amongst regional IPAs.
The Programme provided significant support to the regional IPAs, increasing knowledge, partnerships and opportunities that were previously not available without the requisite support. The workshop was aimed at recognising the significant contribution to the IPAs of the support from PROINVEST and the partnership with Caribbean Export in implementing the programme.
For the close-out activity, representatives from the European Commission in the Dominican Republic, His Excellency Dr. Dominigo Jimenez, Secretary of State and the National Authorising Officer for European Development Funds in the Dominican Republic, Mr. Eddy Martinez, President of the Centre for Investment and Export in the Dominican Republic, Mr. Lestroy Samuel, the President of CAIPA and Mr. Escipion Oliveira, Deputy Executive Director for Caribbean Export, delivered opening remarks.
The close-out workshop was attended by senior representatives from the IPAs in the Caribbean, representatives from the Organisation of American States and the Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA) as well as members of the private sector from the region. Guest presenters from best practice IPAs such as PROCHILE and ABA-Invest in Austria were also in attendance.
