Investment Promotion Agencies and private sector representatives better tooled to target investors

More than 50 persons from across the CARIFORUM region were recently trained in targeting investors as well as using new communication methods as investment targeting tools. The participants included officials from 17 Investment Promotion Agencies (IPAs) and representatives of the private sector.

They took part in a training workshop entitled ‘Strategic Investor Promotions’ which was hosted by the Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export), the Caribbean Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (CAIPA), and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) from September 19 – 21 in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic.

The UNCTAD team and experts with more than forty (40) years of combined experience guided the participants through a step-by-step and sector specific approach to investor targeting. The trainers also provided insights into the use of social media and other means of communication as investment targeting tools.

The three-day training programme which was held in the training facilities at the Centre for Export and Investment in the Dominican Republic (CEI-RD), sought to build capacity in an area that has been identified as a priority by the IPAs in the Caribbean. The participants were presented with certificates of participation from UNCTAD and CAIPA.
