The Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export) led a delegation of representatives from the Dominican Republic (DR) and Haiti to participate at the 15th Annual Call Center Week 2014 in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA from June 9-13, 2014. This expedition was part of the Agency’s efforts to spur increased investment in Haiti and the Dominican Republic within the framework of the trade component of the Haiti-Dominican Republic Bilateral Programme of Economic and Trade Cooperation funded by the European Union under the 10th European Development Fund (EDF).
Caribbean Export organized this mission with the support of the Centre for Export and Investment in the DR (CEI-RD) and the Center for Facilitation of Investment (CFI) of Haiti. The mission included a delegation of select Dominican and Haitian firms.
The Call Center Week is the largest and most attended call center event in the US, bringing together 130 exhibitors, some 1,500 customer service professionals and more than 120 speakers. Attendees received the benefits of high visibility in an expressive setting, numerous skill-based workshops, and unique networking opportunities. In this framework, Haitian and Dominican participants were able to engage in over one hundred (100) Business to Business (B2B) meetings with potential investors from all over the world.
Norma Powell, General Director of CFI, explained that “the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry was identified as a priority sector by the Government of Haiti and CFI, and we are working together to attract investments into our BPO sector.”
In concurrence with these sentiments, CEI-RD’s Executive Director, Jean Alain Rodriguez, stated “our hope is that this event will be a first of many aimed at bringing together the greatest players of the Contact Center Industry, to promote and develop an entrepreneurial culture through the exchange of information”.
Through this intervention, the Agency seeks to promote Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) opportunities for Haiti and the Dominican Republic via a greater interaction with extra-regional investors. This strategy is aimed at the enhancement of the overall business and investment climates of Haiti and the Dominican Republic as a single but multi-faceted investment destination. Ultimately, the goal is to capitalize on common strengths while highlighting each country´s unique investment opportunities.
