Surinamese Firms Set To Access EU Grant Funds

Bridgetown, BARBADOS, February 6, 2014.  The Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export) in partnership with ASFA Suriname Manufactures Association delivers a two-day workshop on the Direct Assistance Grant Scheme to attending firms as part of the Regional Private Sector Development Programme (RPSDP) funded by the European Union under the 10th European Development Fund (EDF) on February 6 and 7, 2014.

The workshop held at the headquarters of ASFA Suriname Manufacturers Association, delivered by Caribbean Export, forms part of their commitment to strengthening the capacity of CARIFORUM firms to access finance via their established Direct Assistance Grant Scheme and contributes to Agency’s overall objective to enhance the competitiveness among CARIFORUM’s private sector.

The Direct Assistance Grant Scheme is a reimbursement grant funding facility specifically designed to provide financial assistance to legally registered firms, individuals and Business Support Organisations (BSOs) who have the potential to export their products and services.  In order to ensure CARIFORUM firms and BSOs are able to utilise the funds available, Caribbean Export provides these workshops to increase the schemes awareness with the private sector and importantly, those attending the information and training sessions will gain a greater understanding of the process for applying for grant funding.   Ultimately, the workshops aim is to not only increase the number of applicants from Surinamese firms, but also the number of successful applications to the Direct Assistance Grant Scheme.   In addition through delivering the training to Business Support Organisations (BSOs) it is anticipated that their capacity is increased to support and provide assistance to local firms when preparing applications for the call for proposals.

The delivery of this workshop is timely in view of the announcement on January 17th for the Call for Proposals for both the Accelerated and Regular Procedures grant facilities, enabling firms to apply for grants of up to €30,000.

The deadline for this Call for Proposals is March 7, 2014 and more information about the Direct Assistance Grant Scheme can be found at www.carib-export.com.  Contact: Kirk Brown, Senior Grant Advisor (kbrown@carib-export.com) or Celestine Moe, Grant Advisor (cmoe@carib-export.com), Caribbean Export Development Agency, Tel: +1(246) 436-0578, Fax: +1(246) 436-9999
