Exporting Caribbean Creativity – Calling All Artisans

Barbados, February 15, 2013 Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export), has officially opened the doors for the best regional contemporary product designers and artisans to showcase their products to regional and international buyers at the region’s largest design trade event, Design Caribbean.

Design Caribbean will be held at the Grand Lucayan Resort, Freeport, Grand Bahama, The Bahamas, from June 20-23, 2013 and is set to unite a passion for design with the soul of the Caribbean. Caribbean Export is committed to raising the profile of the Caribbean creative industries on the international market and Design Caribbean is a platform chosen to achieve this.  In addition to the main trade fair, there will be other events that support the promotion of the Caribbean’s creative industries.  On the evening of Friday 21st visitors will be captivated by the Essence Fashion Show and the Soul Fusion music concert Saturday 22nd adds the important musical element.

All participants and exhibitors at Design Caribbean will go through a selection process to ensure they meet a criteria that enables them to successfully export their products; “not only must artisans produce a superior product in terms of design and production, they must also have the business model in place to facilitate sustainable export demand.  For example, it is important that producers have a pricing structure in place to take wholesale orders as well as retail sales” expressed Pamela Coke-Hamilton, Executive Director of Caribbean Export.

Following the success of Design Caribbean 2011, and feedback from buyers, Caribbean Export is partnering with international agencies to support the influx of buyers to this year’s event.

Artisans are encouraged to visit the Design Caribbean website http://designcaribbean.com/exhibitors/to complete the Design Caribbean Company Assessment Form.

Design Caribbean is produced by Caribbean Export with funding by the European Union under the 10th European Development Fund, Regional Private Sector Development Programme, in partnership with the Ministry of the Bahamas, the Grand Bahama Port Authority, the Bahamas Agricultural and Industrial Corporation and the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism.
